Recently I have been thinking about the difference between fitting in and belonging.
Fitting in brings up feelings of trying and fear.
Belonging brings up feelings of being and knowing.
When we are trying to fit in we can unconsciously start to sell ourselves which often gets us stuck unintentionally in transactional relationships.
When we belong we get to show up just as we are, no figuring out what we think is the right thing to do. We get to just be. There is a freedom in belonging
When we really understand that we come into this world belonging it changes everything. One of the most basic human needs is to feel a sense of belonging. We were all birthed from the collective source and we will all return to the collective source. Knowing this helps us to understand that we could never not belong.
What would you do differently if you knew you belonged?
Who would you be or discover you already are if you knew you belonged?
Dr. Maya Angelou said, “You only are free when you realize you belong no place - you belong every place - no place at all. The price is high. The reward is great.”
I challenge you, just for today, to carry with you a sense of belonging. If you are really brave let me know how it went. And if you are really, really brave do it again.
